If asked, I'd tell you my favourite colours are turquoise, pinky-purple, grey, green (not grass nor British racing green but chartreuse, olive, lime etc.), I wouldn't say no to blue or black, wouldn't turn my nose up at red and I could go on. But I'd be lying.
Without a doubt my favourite colour is yellow in all it's gaudy glory; golds, mustards, daffodils, sunflowers, browns,...Of course I've always been partial to the colour but was made aware of the degree of my partiality earlier this week by Sarah pointing out that I returned from my holidays with 5 very different yarns that are all the same colour!
Really? Surely not.
To get to the bottom of this, I pulled out all remotely yellow skeins in my stash and took a picture. I'll let you be the judge.
Hmmm, the girl might have a point.
But what am I to do? If I'm drawn to it, I'm drawn to it and there's nothing wrong with that. Or is there? Did I mention that I don't even wear these colours particularly well? Ah, I left out that little detail, didn't I? Yes, well there you have it. This discussion came about because I may or may not have declared I wouldn't return from my holidays with the usual suspects i.e. anything yellowish. So what did I return with? That would be 5 skeins which are pretty close on the colour spectrum! But I did get other yarns too.
I know I am not alone here. Some folks REALLY love grey (here's looking at you, mooncalf) others (like jenny) gravitate towards purple and believe it or not there's even some folks (o.k. maybe just one) that REALLY like orange (*coughs* nicola).
Now I'm done pointing fingers, I ask:
- if your stash (and if you don't have a stash then your wardrobe/walls...) had to consist of just one colour, which would it be?
- What is the most frequently occurring (the mode) colour in your stash (your wardrobe/walls...) right now?
- if you do have a favourite colour, do you find you have to consciously decide to buy other colours or are you an equal opportunity colour lover that just happens to have one fave? (like me)

giggle - blushes.
ReplyDeleteI quite like blue too.
1. Purple.
ReplyDelete2. It's a tie between purple and turquoise.
3. I like all colours, each one has it's place... but I have no orange. At all. This post made me realise it, so, I am dyeing some orange in my Halloween dyeing and I am going to keep some :)
1. I think I have too much pink yarn. I absolutely love a dark pink that also has some coral or peach in it. I seem to buy I lot of yarn in that color. I also have quite a bit of blue, turquoise, teal, navy, light blue - I like blue too.
ReplyDelete2. I've been wearing a lot of white this summer. It goes with everything.
3. I have been trying to buy other colors. I never liked yellow much but I think it's becoming my new obsession. I love the picture of your yarn! So beautiful.
I love orange, so there's more than one of us out there ;)
ReplyDeleteI do have to try and restrain myself from buying all yarn in the same colour (I don't wear much orange but if I'm not careful I'll have a tonne of orange sock yarn) and I seem to go through phases where everything I buy or knit ends up the same for a while.
1. Blue
ReplyDelete2. I have a lot of dark foresty green in my stash at the moment.
3. I am trying to branch out from blue, purple, and green. This seems to be working, since I currently have about one knitted garment in each. (For some reason I branched out to brown this year and now have loads of brown things. Hm)
I love yellow, too, even though I can't wear it very well. I have a special yellow skein waiting to become socks, and some yellow socks in progress, though. My feet are equal opportunity for colours :)
I love green yarn but I wear mostly grey and black. I also love yellow - I've got 5 skeins of bright yellow yarn I'm hoping to knit in to a cardi before the end of winter!
ReplyDelete1. Blue.
ReplyDelete2. I have so much blue in my stash. It's really an addiction. But I tend to wear more red than blue.
3. I've been trying to buy more red yarn just to even things out. I do have a bit of green in there. I have almost no yellow yarn either. I'm not really a big fan of the color.
That's easy - red! But I'm very very fussy about it; that's the reason I started dying yarn. Clothing-wise, I don't like anything too bright, so I mostly wear black and grey with a bit of red wool thrown in :)
ReplyDeleteI do also sometimes buy yarn in dark green and I'm rather partial to a nice rich brown. Autumn colours all the way1
uhoh - I'm knitting purple, wearing purple and have a stash full of purple (and a little blue). I probably should buy some yarn of another colour... thanks for giving me an excuse to yarn shop! talk soon xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm another purple person. I do love all colours, and try to make myself buy other colours, but it's amazing how much of my stash and my wardrobe fall somewhere between blue and red!
ReplyDeleteMeh, that's not nearly as much yellow as I have blue. Which, strangely, isn't even my favourite colour (RED!), but it is the colour I wear most often. That and 101 incarnations of black/grey, but you couldn't pay me to knit with them. Boooriiiing. So blue it is!
ReplyDeleteBlue. And, just like Mags, it's not my favourite colour. I don't know how the hell it happened, but my yarn basket is chock full of it. Not that I don't like blue, but I don't wear it... :P
ReplyDelete1 - If it had to be just one color...I'd say green.
ReplyDelete2 - The most frequently occurring color in my stash is probably purple.
3- I'm usually drawn to the same colors, so I have to make myself look at others first.
I don't think I saw the bright yellow the other day. I like it! Not to wear, but I do like it!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have a die hard favorite color. For clothes, it's probably black. I tend to mix it up for knitting. That said, of the 4 sweaters I've knitting for myself, 2 are a very similar shade of purple. Which wasn't intentional, and was a bit surprising when I realized they were so similar. And yes, I do have a sweater load of purple yarn on the way, but it's a totally different lilac, so that hardly counts. :)
Hee, that orange. There was definitely the year or so of buying orange. Now I seem to be into an aqua/turquoise/greeny-blue phase.
ReplyDeleteThe most frequently occurring colours in my stash are either that coral orange or green
I really love anything colour saturated, it's only the pastels that sort of fail to woo me. I want colour with OOMPH!
I do love marl type greys too, so basically, I'm easily pleased, but love strong colours. You inspire me to be braver in my colour choices, too. Loff!
I think we all gravitate to colours unknowingly too.
Oh, love that picture!
